Around Christmas time I had an opportunity to read a wonderful book called KNOWN:The handbook for building and unleashing your personal brand in the digital age by Mark W. Schaefer. Mark is an author of six books that mostly talk about the new era of social media. In his books he helps people who have little knowledge of understanding social media and transforms their knowledge on the topic. His book KNOWN is the only book of his that I have read so far and in my opinion by far the best book on understanding social media and the digital age. You can pick up the book here.
Why do I read a book like this you ask? I read it because I'm an author and for me being KNOWN is very important. It's important for me to get my work out there to everybody in this world and a book like this transformed the way I need to get my work out there. Writing a book is indeed the hard part, but marketing and promoting it is just as difficult for me. I don't really expect people to just rush to amazon and buy my book just because I post a link on my social media. I have to do the work of being active and getting known to the world.
A book like this isn't just for authors in the world. This book is for anyone who is trying to unleash their personal brand. If you're brand is involved with t-shirts, books or maybe even beauty products this can also be a great book for you. To become KNOWN is very hard in this era of social media because a lot of us are trying to reach the same people and sell the same products.
Finally, if you're stuck trying to get your brand out there to the world then this is a great book for you. The digital age is changing very quickly and you have to always study the changes and be on point all the time. My personal brand has grown since I've read this book and have become more comfortable navigating on social media looking for super-fans of my work.
